In 2007 I began this activity for the Central Library and taught the techniques to staff members at other locations right through 2022. I worked with local teen students to make Mexican sugar skulls from scratch and a week later, the dried skulls were ready for teens and families to decorate. This activity is part of an annual celebration for the Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos). Anaheim is over 55% Latino/a/x and I loved having events that shared in the cultures of the community. Everyone had a great time making art, guests learned about cultural traditions that may differ from their own, and the community kept coming back to the library. Win, win, win.

Hello! My name is Tasneem and you can call me Taz. I'm a retired librarian with a passion for community outreach and engagement. In my spare time I enjoy open ocean outrigger paddling and spending time with family near Seattle, Washington and Dallas, Texas.
